</strong><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>It's the announcement
you've been waiting for, and I've been longing to tell you! It's
official! We're finally getting a front door to call our own! :)<br />
<br />
The Little Shop of Stitches is making its home at 79 South Main Street
in Miamisburg! The owner of the building is busy doing a lot of
renovations both to the interior and the exterior. It will be AMAZING
once it is finished!<br />
<br />
The building sits right at the corner of Main Street and Linden Avenue
in historic downtown Miamisburg. The building itself dates back to the
1920's and has a tremendous amount of charm. It reminds me of an
old-fashioned general store. Quaint, comfortable, AWESOME!</strong></span><strong><br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong><br />
</strong></span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>I
am proud to be "next door" neighbors with some fantastic local
businesses -- Giuliano's Italian Restaurant, TJ Chumps, and A Taste of
Wine. Downtown Miamisburg has a lot to offer, and now it's getting a
new quilt shop!!!<br />
<br />
There is still a lot of work to be done, and I will keep you all updated
on the progress of the renovations. We are tentatively planning to be
open for business around Labor Day. I am humbled by all of the support
and good wishes I've received. I know you are just as excited as I am!
Please help spread the word to all of your fellow stitchers -- <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/" target="_blank">The Little Shop of Stitches</a> is on the map!</strong></span></span><strong><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">I'm still here! </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">You know that feeling when you get off the Tilt-A-Whirl at the amusement park? The feeling that you know you've stopped, but your head is still spinning?</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Yeah, that's me.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">June has been a true whirlwind of a month! We had an awesome time in Ohio Amish country. We posted a few photos of some stunning quilts on our <a href="http://www.facebook.com/TheLittleShopOfStitches?ref=tn_tnmn" target="_blank">Facebook</a> page. I am always inspired by such wonderful talent! I was pleased as punch to be a guest blogger earlier this month for Kristen at <a href="http://thelittleshopofstitches.blogspot.com/2012/06/here-there-and-everywhere.html" target="_blank">Ladybug Blessings. </a> </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">We're gearing up for the <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/newsletter.htm" target="_blank">Original Creative Festival</a> in Sharonville on June 28-30. I've been stitching up samples, ordering new fabric and patterns, and my now-second grader is home this summer to "help." It really is cute, the way he is getting so involved in Mommy's shop! </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">This is the latest sample from Simply Twisted Designs called <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Quilt-Kits--More/p/Kit--Patriotic-Twist--Large-Wall-Hanging-sku-9K-STD103-L.htm" target="_blank">Patriotic Twister.</a> The Twister patterns are extremely popular, and they are easy and fun to put together!</span></div>

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Life is so much better when you're busy!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">If you haven't visited the <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/" target="_blank">website</a> in a while, I invite you to take a look. You'll find all of our newest fabrics and dates of upcoming shows. We've added a fun video tutorial from <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Fabric/Prints/Riley-Blake.htm" target="_blank">Riley Blake</a> fabrics to make their <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/gallery.htm" target="_blank">Verona apron.</a> Too cute!</span></div>

<span style="font-size: small;">We rolled in late Sunday night from Quilt Market in Kansas City. It is now Tuesday night, and I'm still tired!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The entire experience was a cross between Christmas morning with a five-year-old sense of excitement and a crazy, wild-and-free feeling like Woodstock for Quilters! My brain was (and still is) on overload. So many beautiful things, too many for one cerebral cortex to process.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Here is a brief glimpse into the roller coaster of emotions from my first Quilt Market.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I was thrilled to cross the Mississippi River for the first time...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg57XTVbAtERi-_Mdj2iwMWvtXqxx69S3kd4HcN3a3ziv6-BB2J9pJA8SwiPf5lu4gbSpr8bTlSMR4x1oo4-7edpZNMynRY8suNp0TLAOtxdJjUhmbiJKEz9mRoMTpTQmjC_uDVfNC6llly/s1600/IMG_0254.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg57XTVbAtERi-_Mdj2iwMWvtXqxx69S3kd4HcN3a3ziv6-BB2J9pJA8SwiPf5lu4gbSpr8bTlSMR4x1oo4-7edpZNMynRY8suNp0TLAOtxdJjUhmbiJKEz9mRoMTpTQmjC_uDVfNC6llly/s320/IMG_0254.JPG" width="240" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">My fingers were crossed the whole time that we didn't come face-to-face with one those infamous Kansas tornadoes! Thankfully, we didn't.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Sometimes, Market seemed a bit frightening...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipL3nrAvlIJMiQrWhwY_bTIBI069HISIkx7iiDtqSbst7hQPP9tAopMRQTES6IrhoohPtUTUN9bLdfflpAVsUAFQzRCMCabRNuJX4CqkAoXYaUbeaycOQ_uzU5HbKEwjxjj-ivdOQBZ_9Q/s1600/IMG_0275.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipL3nrAvlIJMiQrWhwY_bTIBI069HISIkx7iiDtqSbst7hQPP9tAopMRQTES6IrhoohPtUTUN9bLdfflpAVsUAFQzRCMCabRNuJX4CqkAoXYaUbeaycOQ_uzU5HbKEwjxjj-ivdOQBZ_9Q/s320/IMG_0275.JPG" width="240" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Even a wee bit spooky...</span></div>

<span style="font-size: small;">I must admit my photography skills are not the best. Regardless, I hope you are able to enjoy a few photos of the winners from the Miami Valley Quilt Guild Show from last weekend. These are not all of the winners, just the ones I was able to get through the crowds to see. Nothing can replace seeing these works of art in person, however. Just remarkable. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">This first one was part of a Joann's challenge. Beautiful to look at, but the quilt maker said the fabric was not fun to work with. ;) </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8FyxK36M9tUO3vAyeFZW5otzIoOAPMPI5kPpr6DFVLk8QvsXF7_wli0ySa0RdQLqYbslUMhxx5ZLib0_GsL4SSrWz_FJ6sO869iSP-mR7KwCwKWkr58pUqQvTLSfZ_FomP2qWN1x7fgl5/s1600/IMG_0229.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8FyxK36M9tUO3vAyeFZW5otzIoOAPMPI5kPpr6DFVLk8QvsXF7_wli0ySa0RdQLqYbslUMhxx5ZLib0_GsL4SSrWz_FJ6sO869iSP-mR7KwCwKWkr58pUqQvTLSfZ_FomP2qWN1x7fgl5/s320/IMG_0229.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> This next winner is a gorgeous whole cloth quilt with an angel motif.</span></span></div>

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> This quilt won for best pieced quilt.</span></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">This was made by <a href="http://mariaelkins.com/" target="_blank">Maria Elkins,</a> a national award winner. This was a personal challenge to herself, to make the entire wall hanging with NO PINS! Just a fabric glue stick! Amazing!</span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">See what I mean by the crowds of people? :) This won Best In Show, and for very good reason. The winner is to the right in the blue shirt.</span></span> <span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> (Didn't catch her name.)</span></span><br />

And, I know I will be just as tired as a worn-out six-year-old later. But, it's worth it. An entire day of viewing, talking, and thinking QUILT! </div>

<span style="font-size: small;">Joan Hawley from <a href="http://www.lazygirldesigns.com/blog/pdf-files/make-our-1-yard-1-hour-free-tote-bag-pattern-for-last-minute-holiday-gift-bags" target="_blank">Lazy Girl Designs</a> is the Queen of Totes, the Boss of Bags, and the Princess of Purses. All rolled into one!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">A friend of mine located one of Joan's freebie patterns online, and I gotta tell ya -- I am HOOKED! Check it out!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">How did I miss this??? This pattern was published on the </span><a href="http://www.lazygirldesigns.com/blog/pdf-files/make-our-1-yard-1-hour-free-tote-bag-pattern-for-last-minute-holiday-gift-bags" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;" target="_blank">Lazy Girl blog</a><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> in 2007. Apparently, I have been under a rock for five years! (Or, you know, raising a boy, taking care of a family, working...) Joan "gave away" this free pattern to her readers and fans as a Christmas gift. So nice!</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMp27t6Y8vbQf7kYCiNwTqn6k54DaVreWTB16LhSJ_7MFcdHeZeJ5QzZVZnFHzTHM7kxWZGj7XT0ex_QinWa1P2LclyOROtxSTnXQeZaDYzAiXe0WcDtJNZHf1kQe3xUew53cVjSFoB76n/s1600/IMG_0210.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMp27t6Y8vbQf7kYCiNwTqn6k54DaVreWTB16LhSJ_7MFcdHeZeJ5QzZVZnFHzTHM7kxWZGj7XT0ex_QinWa1P2LclyOROtxSTnXQeZaDYzAiXe0WcDtJNZHf1kQe3xUew53cVjSFoB76n/s320/IMG_0210.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">This is the <a href="http://www.lazygirldesigns.com/blog/pdf-files/make-our-1-yard-1-hour-free-tote-bag-pattern-for-last-minute-holiday-gift-bags" target="_blank">"With Love Tote Bag."</a> One yard of fabric plus one hour of your time and voila! A lovely, eco-friendly tote bag! I will so be toting this bag tomorrow! I chose <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Fabric/Prints/Moda/p/Moda--Ruby-Swoon-sku-1M-55030-16.htm" target="_blank">Ruby Swoon fabric from Moda</a>. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Fabric/Prints/Moda/p/Moda--Ruby-Swoon-sku-1M-55030-16.htm" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFzZDgRXOvcWTTRp7C85b1vChm2HT6iCJBuP6llHD0KFSOfcDddz4gr8m3HGOH2lAF3oZ72BlCuKUddR29FTuIEwHwgGRiLJ02PUvyBwJ9sAfjPBXPQtRs9nyEvCt5y0zXzuw6Kd8ZcdIB/s320/Moda+Ruby+Swoon+Lime+Green.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I just love the colors, very spring-time. I did not time myself while sewing. I know it took me a little longer than an hour because I was gabbing on the phone between seams. ;) It truly is simple to put together, and if I keep myself from talking, I'm sure the next one will go even quicker.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I had only an hour to spare today, so this one bag is what I have to share -- for now. Joan explains in the blog post that this same technique can be used with <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Fabric.htm" target="_blank">fat quarters</a> for small bags! Ooooohhhh....I see a sea of adorable bags in my future.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">And, I must admit, that when I cook and when I sew I follow the directions -- the first time. After that, I take the liberty of creative license. I would love to try Joan's method with wider, longer handles...perhaps some <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Notions/p/Babyville-Owl-Buttons-sku-4C-BV35056.htm" target="_blank">adorable buttons</a> to embellish...maybe even get wild and crazy and try a different lining <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Fabric.htm" target="_blank">fabric!</a> The sample she shows uses grosgrain ribbon for handles. Too cute!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">You see, when you take the Lazy way out, you have room to be creative! ;)</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I will have quilt show pictures to share soon! Our next show is </span><a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/module/news.htm?newsId=1364" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;" target="_blank">May 4-5 in Xenia, Ohio.</a><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> Hope to see you there!</span></span>Jenn at The Little Shop of Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15060012386031754169noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1504376647474442590.post-90663339044030154822012-04-25T09:56:00.004-04:002012-04-25T09:58:09.737-04:00Practically Famous!<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

Those quotes from our favorite movies that stay with us and just pop out when we need them. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Last week I received a package in the mail. And the line that went through my head was, "The phone books are here! The phone books are here!" Can you guess? That's right! It was Steve Martin in <i>The Jerk</i> way back when.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Now, where am I going with this, you ask?</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">As I opened that package, I found myself saying, "The quilts are here! The quilts are here!" Jumping up and down like a marionette, just like Steve.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/" target="_blank">The Little Shop of Stitches</a> has partnered with <a href="http://rubybluequilts.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Ruby Blue Quilting Studio</a> for a traveling trunk show!!!! One of the best parts of this "job" of mine here at <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/" target="_blank">The Little Shop of Stitches</a> is meeting such wonderful people. Equally wonderful is meeting their quilts.</span></div><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Say hello to Diane Alders. Diane is the proud owner of <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/PatchworkMountain" target="_blank">Patchwork Mountain</a> in Erie, Colorado. Let me tell you, that pride comes through loud and clear in her quilts. In her own words, "Quilting is my true passion. Combining fabrics and seeing the finished creation of a handmade quilt is such an enjoyment."</span></span><br />
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">As I began exploring the world of <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/PatchworkMountain" target="_blank">Patchwork Mountain,</a> I realized I was staring at the computer screen with my mouth hanging wide open. No, I wasn't drooling! Simply in awe. It's like having my own quilt show right in my family room. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Teal and Purple Batiks. Simple, elegant, beautiful. </span></span><br />

Sometimes getting started can be the hardest part.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The twister idea in the world of quilting is not a brand new idea. However, it was something I'd never done myself before. They fascinate me, with the twisted colors and squares all askew. With the summer months rapidly approaching, I decided to try the <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Patterns/Quilt-Patterns/p/Simply-Twisted--Patriotic-Twist-Pattern-sku-2C-STD103.htm" target="_blank">Patriotic Twist</a> pattern from Simply Twisted Designs.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Patterns/Quilt-Patterns/p/Simply-Twisted--Patriotic-Twist-Pattern-sku-2C-STD103.htm" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2w3thPmrejGOLz9KGHD_8PAAQxQN3642xwlcQ0LIUlW07AuE3KTB5IMImPfDAWt7bhpPJ0LmeMGA-kByS6AjzS00zpMFemT5eDFh-M0PvuQ_nL9vn4hpqwA_kL1zb9A0ZMS7wR4ffyLs4/s1600/Simply+Twisted+Patriotic+Twist+STD103.jpg" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">It uses the <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Notions/p/Lil-Twister-RulerTemplate-from-Country-Schoolhouse-Designs.htm" target="_blank">Lil' Twister</a> template ruler by Country Schoolhouse. What in the world do razor blades, tires and quilt shows have in common? Well, just read on, My Friend!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I am still coming down from my adrenaline high from our weekend at QuiltFest! We had the car packed so tightly, we almost didn't have room for our suitcases! I thought I would take you on a picture tour. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">To start off, we encountered a bit of a bump in the road (no pun intended). </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ-KKe8IJjUfOIoipgp2stRAyfPdgRNWO79LXCcbe3kKPpcfHBJIVb-_sksCt4CkzkXYuHCiR1bhpduXJ54njgeMwlVCH8QUo38LG4XMCz6hn0gyUeveziANLueTqtTLMjeVVGgc44q_sD/s1600/IMG_0100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ-KKe8IJjUfOIoipgp2stRAyfPdgRNWO79LXCcbe3kKPpcfHBJIVb-_sksCt4CkzkXYuHCiR1bhpduXJ54njgeMwlVCH8QUo38LG4XMCz6hn0gyUeveziANLueTqtTLMjeVVGgc44q_sD/s320/IMG_0100.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I called it a razor blade, Mom called it a shard. Either way, it was metal, pointy and did NOT belong in my tire! Luckily, we found it before it was too late. As we parked in the lot at the repair shop, we heard a very distinct "ssssshhhhhhhhhhh" sound coming from the tire! Oh no! I told the nice man in the shop, "My tire is deflating in your parking lot as we speak. I am hoping you are able to fix it, otherwise, we will be spending the night in your lobby!" Thankfully, everything worked out. (I am not sure he wanted us there all night!) </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">After the tire excitement, we were off to the quilt show! We received many compliments on our display. What do you think? Here we have a few </span><a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.com/shop/Fabric/Prints/Amy-Butler.htm" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;" target="_blank">Amy Butler</a><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> samples and our 3-yard mini-bolts.</span></span><br />

If you are one of the many who thought your high school geometry class fit into the "foreign language" category, don't worry. There are many quilt-y tools out there that can help with the figuring. And, the best part -- no tests!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">So, get out your pencil and scratch pad, your handy-dandy calculator, (or just take off your shoes and socks) and follow along with me on a Quilt Equation journey. Oh, what fun! (Yeah, I used to be a math teacher. I really do think this is fun.)</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Start with a <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/95108427/sandhill-plums-layer-cake-kansas" target="_blank">Moda Layer Cake</a>--42 pieces of 10-inch square fabric. And, so far, we haven't cut one piece or stumbled upon a single fraction!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Add a <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/95109775/five-dime-quilt-pattern-from-kansas" target="_blank">Five & Dime specialty ruler</a>. This ruler is used to precisely center (here comes the geometry) the charm squares onto the layer cake squares. Pin and stitch in raw-edge applique style. Easy-peasy!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio2awK4Itc20JDYSgwoVB8vZdVffqL8QgTmogv87UA24QaA9Rv1EdpRA7tMxBC4MFAqRnEyWD6BFsJLo_xXNDvLm_NWsAh6qmRs1X2cMRQqPHnD2N074V2HjHmPvZ6BJLvuvDFqGxE76sh/s1600/Five+and+dime+ruler.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio2awK4Itc20JDYSgwoVB8vZdVffqL8QgTmogv87UA24QaA9Rv1EdpRA7tMxBC4MFAqRnEyWD6BFsJLo_xXNDvLm_NWsAh6qmRs1X2cMRQqPHnD2N074V2HjHmPvZ6BJLvuvDFqGxE76sh/s1600/Five+and+dime+ruler.jpg" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">So, check your math--84 squares sewn in pairs equals 42 squares. Not so bad, huh? Wonder where your high school math teacher is now? ;)</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Now we DIVIDE and thereby MULTIPLY at the same time! (Cue the scary music!) Flip that Five & Dime ruler around and cut each set down the middle twice--like a plus sign. Check your work. 42 x 4 = 164 pieces!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Mix and match and stitch your pieces back into 4-piece squares in a random-y kind of way. This will bring your total back to: 164 / 4 = 42</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxnILRifUerDQaiYYuji5PsmhbM_6lJ6RRh324uTmYUUcFF42bdUWuG6M4ej7-elT24sgYmkT3YySlp4b-PyunbahDO4WXiW_UmMSYN3NJA_L9VX7VVeNF48CvhW5ePkJn477Y5wVL-zQ1/s1600/IMG_0072.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxnILRifUerDQaiYYuji5PsmhbM_6lJ6RRh324uTmYUUcFF42bdUWuG6M4ej7-elT24sgYmkT3YySlp4b-PyunbahDO4WXiW_UmMSYN3NJA_L9VX7VVeNF48CvhW5ePkJn477Y5wVL-zQ1/s320/IMG_0072.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Use your awesome randomness to sew the patchwork squares into rows of 5. Continue your quilt-y calculations by stitching together 7 rows. Add two borders, and what do you get for your final answer???</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/95109775/five-dime-quilt-pattern-from-kansas" target="_blank">Five & Dime quilt from Kansas Troubles Quilters</a>! </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX4HHQ16BiPyKukE_VoCV8kaiacQkqRqhs-_LTj8FDkwDLAJV1u1L2hwEQk3n4MbZiB5MsBE1IliMd1S5DcHpBsDJJQmyRexfrivPcyKv6qMrHij7VBUmTc78QoEO-VBguT0MA1c58hRHY/s1600/IMG_0094.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX4HHQ16BiPyKukE_VoCV8kaiacQkqRqhs-_LTj8FDkwDLAJV1u1L2hwEQk3n4MbZiB5MsBE1IliMd1S5DcHpBsDJJQmyRexfrivPcyKv6qMrHij7VBUmTc78QoEO-VBguT0MA1c58hRHY/s320/IMG_0094.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Ya gotta wonder if the great mathematicians of yesteryear had wives who were quilters.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">OK, Bonus Question! Extra Credit to anyone who figured out there are EXTRA blocks laying around somewhere! Remember, we started with 42 patchwork blocks, and made 7 rows of 5 blocks each. So, there are 7 leftovers! The Five & Dime pattern includes instructions to make a tablerunner out of the extras. Guess what my next project will be?</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Thank you for following along our Quilt Equation journey. Not even a smidgeon of math anxiety! And, thank you to Lynne and the gang at KTQ for such a fun pattern!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">As I finished this quilt top, I kept wondering what it would look like in a different color palette. </span><a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/94997584/berenstain-bears-layer-cake-welcome-to" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;" target="_blank">The Berenstain Bears</a><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> have a new line. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">This morning, I wrote out a list of things to do before we head out. Here is a sneak peek at the prep work.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">New fabric shipments! I'm becoming very friendly with my UPS and FedEx man. ;) Doesn't this look like a giant box of crayons? </span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">A great flea market find in the back of my car. It is a doll-sized wooden cradle, and is absolutely adorable! In its second life with me, it will display fabric. </span></span><br />

I'm a proud member of Generation X and have fond memories of sitting on the floor in front of our TV watching the <i>Donny and Marie</i> show. Probably the most famous segment of the show was Marie's rendition of "I'm a Little Bit Country" while Donny countered with "I'm a Little Bit Rock n' Roll."</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">That is what goes through my mind with my current project. "....I'm a little bit country..." It's a darn shame you can't hear me singing! LOL!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid04iXLqsgpdCUcMie4bjnWJjoYfn1zM2TsUqTkjHiXcX0vx9GLEWOdJ5JkKI-h3I-p1wKdll7uB4W0e33CSfUDSXpIBhSE6UCWl8fMoqmvYXweJu7SRHd7PnkBZSWLqZ29TT1x6PvDsx_/s1600/IMG_0072.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid04iXLqsgpdCUcMie4bjnWJjoYfn1zM2TsUqTkjHiXcX0vx9GLEWOdJ5JkKI-h3I-p1wKdll7uB4W0e33CSfUDSXpIBhSE6UCWl8fMoqmvYXweJu7SRHd7PnkBZSWLqZ29TT1x6PvDsx_/s320/IMG_0072.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />

</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">As you may remember (if not, <a href="http://www.thelittleshopofstitches.blogspot.com/2012/02/ruby-tumbles.html">click here</a>), <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/LittleShopOStitches?ref=si_shop">The Little Shop of Stitches</a> is preparing to hit the road soon with Quilt Show Season rapidly approaching. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The pattern caught my eye due to its simplicity. It is a project that anyone with any sewing experience could make. And, while I enjoy a challenge, sometimes the simple patterns allow the fabric to be the star. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">That is certainly the case with <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/95109775/five-dime-quilt-pattern-from-kansas">Five & Dime</a>. This project starts with one <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/95108427/sandhill-plums-layer-cake-kansas">layer cake</a> and one <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/95108835/sandhill-plums-charm-pack-kansas">charm pack</a>. Get it? Layer cakes are TEN inch squares, and Charm Packs are FIVE inch squares? Five, ten...Five & Dime! </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-CuJTPTLd62Y31V-dPqHRR68i2pM6JGAgzwpW3V4pcq3z8ChJtpOXnv58UuFSWpClcfUuIhxPa1h1plL1lKJZ2Uol3rTlUts8WH02Rd1olz5gjOL8SwHbFZhBzKwEZO7KNTpbi_A1qDwS/s1600/Sandhill-Plums-layer-cake.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-CuJTPTLd62Y31V-dPqHRR68i2pM6JGAgzwpW3V4pcq3z8ChJtpOXnv58UuFSWpClcfUuIhxPa1h1plL1lKJZ2Uol3rTlUts8WH02Rd1olz5gjOL8SwHbFZhBzKwEZO7KNTpbi_A1qDwS/s320/Sandhill-Plums-layer-cake.gif" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The Sandhill Plums colors appealed to my mom. ;) "...I'm a little bit country..." She tells me they look "rich" to her. Kinda conjures up visions of a southern ranch, doesn't it?</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI2eJn3d_CLlbF7UlBGZsz0fFzX49Nh9pJpX8QsNMEMlUxV-XnUKoZbHNjDUgCnwIJhNX4W5nwFIUuNcu5n-UfPa3_La_KxtqFIT6oNus7cV0jgvZjYHQ0eeHCxpZMX9k3U9Nx8BkSh5sf/s1600/Five+and+dime+ruler.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI2eJn3d_CLlbF7UlBGZsz0fFzX49Nh9pJpX8QsNMEMlUxV-XnUKoZbHNjDUgCnwIJhNX4W5nwFIUuNcu5n-UfPa3_La_KxtqFIT6oNus7cV0jgvZjYHQ0eeHCxpZMX9k3U9Nx8BkSh5sf/s1600/Five+and+dime+ruler.jpg" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/95109775/five-dime-quilt-pattern-from-kansas">Five & Dime ruler</a> helps line up the squares perfectly for sewing. You simply open the precut packages, line up your ruler and start stitching! Awesome! After cutting the squares into fourths, rearranging them and sewing them patchwork style, they just line up into rows like little soldiers, and VOILA! OK, I haven't quite made it to voila yet, but I'm close. That's why you only get a picture of one block this week! </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Once the squares are all sewn, and borders are added, it will be a lap/twin size quilt. The quilt uses most of the patchwork squares, and a table runner can be made from the "change." Get it? Change? Five & Dime? Cracking up!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Marie Osmond has become a celebrity in the world of sewing since her early television days. I think she would like this pattern. Maybe I should think about doing a "rock n' roll" quilt for Donny...wouldn't want him to be jealous!</span></span>Jenn at The Little Shop of Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15060012386031754169noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1504376647474442590.post-68119101697622893442012-03-08T10:21:00.000-05:002012-03-08T10:21:33.967-05:00Geeking Out!<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">This week, the computer and I are bonding. Not so much bonding with the sewing machine, however.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I view my computer as a "necessary" tool. I need it to run my business, to communicate, and honestly to run my life. I mean, really, could you live these days without it? Banking, <a href="http://www.facebook.com/TheLittleShopOfStitches">Facebook</a>, shopping...it's all on there. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The sewing machine is my "fun" tool. :) I'll get back to it eventually.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Despite the necessity and non-glamorous side of the computer, my job this week really is exciting to me.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/LittleShopOStitches?ref=si_shop">The Little Shop of Stitches</a> is getting its own Dot.Com website!!!! Wheeeee!!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB63FlmV_XfwjRoC1uWH5SOfdIARwlDwe-rd05jHQNu6No0DTLvM4QnkZHfIxTbBW67WIdHNJDh7jMsYubOgoWgH874x1uQZTcSsq6SelX4Ywc1_0gl3yu5rxHeiYzbYpZ-uwPojY68iDE/s1600/LSOS+Stitched.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="84" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB63FlmV_XfwjRoC1uWH5SOfdIARwlDwe-rd05jHQNu6No0DTLvM4QnkZHfIxTbBW67WIdHNJDh7jMsYubOgoWgH874x1uQZTcSsq6SelX4Ywc1_0gl3yu5rxHeiYzbYpZ-uwPojY68iDE/s320/LSOS+Stitched.png" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The designers did a fabulous job with the look of the site. The programmers have done their part to make it "work" like a website. (I am so thankful that wasn't my responsibility!) Now, it's my turn.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I'm doing the tweaking, adding the fabrics/books/patterns, uploading the photos. You know, the FUN part!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The Little Shop will still be on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/LittleShopOStitches?ref=si_shop">Etsy</a>! I believe in Etsy and what it stands for - handmade items and quality supplies to make them. Additionally, there is a sense of community found on Etsy that is unlike any other.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Starting this new Dot.com website feels a bit like buying my first house. It's mine, it's all mine! Where will I put this? Where will that fit? What can I add to make it beautiful and personalized?</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I do not yet know exactly when the site will go live, but I sincerely hope you stay with me for the journey!</span></span>Jenn at The Little Shop of Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15060012386031754169noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1504376647474442590.post-31671810214518877472012-03-02T07:00:00.001-05:002012-03-02T07:00:06.141-05:00Friday's Feature - Yo Yo Cottage<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I think one of the best things about sewing and quilting for me is that the concept is simple. Take a piece of fabric, cut it into the shape you want, and sew it together. The variety of ways in which this can be done is completely mind-boggling! However, conceptually -- simple. And, of course, often times it is the simple things that are best in life.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Today's feature is the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/YoYoCottage">Yo Yo Cottage</a> based out of Blairsville, Georgia. We all know those cute little circles that are hand-sewn by the dozens. Well, the Yo Yo Cottage takes the simple concept of yo yos and makes them extra special. Just look...</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiuoR8FIDMR86EMwZ_QcM1rq42OBqJ2zIVmjHG1ocvM9rxr8dNnfg7DHy8UfxE2w3jVv-OzbtHn4appwASoZAMMaCPB1zen3EDQNJki-j3zZth2aDOkrLUWTv8GtP7JF8HZaqFs409sHhk/s1600/Yo+Yo+Cottage+doll+pic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiuoR8FIDMR86EMwZ_QcM1rq42OBqJ2zIVmjHG1ocvM9rxr8dNnfg7DHy8UfxE2w3jVv-OzbtHn4appwASoZAMMaCPB1zen3EDQNJki-j3zZth2aDOkrLUWTv8GtP7JF8HZaqFs409sHhk/s320/Yo+Yo+Cottage+doll+pic.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></div><span style="font-size: small;"> I love, love, LOVE this picture! <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/YoYoCottage">Yo Yo Cottage</a> takes custom orders to make the size and color of yo yos you need for your project. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/79753506/amelia-in-plentiful-pink-from-moda">Amelia</a> line of fabric from Me and My Sister Designs satisfies my need for girly-ness. Just me and sewing machine creating something oh-so-pink. Coupled with the simplicity of Terry Atkinson's directions from the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/90765282/quilt-pattern-from-atkinson-designs">Yellow Brick Road pattern</a>, it makes for some lovely quilting time. Here we have Amelia following that Yellow Brick Road.</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Zh0xX6bAtE5VVHE3-9DFBL7T6z0LT6-1UVhLDQM-l90G5qES7ro4Tusf_2S1nbxB58JeVyBTS3_ZDM1eAyV3Hy2F_JnaIK5Flbn_Xv3pyQ6Jn2ZxUjzDLFAt1j9OvfmUxdwHMq1by4xS/s1600/IMG_0045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Zh0xX6bAtE5VVHE3-9DFBL7T6z0LT6-1UVhLDQM-l90G5qES7ro4Tusf_2S1nbxB58JeVyBTS3_ZDM1eAyV3Hy2F_JnaIK5Flbn_Xv3pyQ6Jn2ZxUjzDLFAt1j9OvfmUxdwHMq1by4xS/s320/IMG_0045.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">This is one of the easiest patterns I've ever made, and I love the randomness of it. Each time you make this quilt, it turns out differently. It took only 6 fat quarters plus a yard for the borders. The pattern includes directions for six different sizes, and this is the smallest "baby" size. It is a large size for a baby quilt, certainly something the baby could grow into. </span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Quite frankly, I am so short, I think this would be an awesome lap quilt for me! I had to ask the husband to hold it up for this picture! (Told you he was great!)</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />

You know those people you can just talk to, just carry on a conversation like you've know them for years and years? Yep, that's Danita!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Danita lives in Maine and is the proud new owner of <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/MidcoastMiscellany?ref=seller_info">Midcoast Miscellany</a>. Her Etsy shop is brand-spanking new -- only one month young! It is a fun, eclectic mix of old and new, with captivating stories behind each item. Her mix of treasures include 80's pop sheet music and vintage sewing patterns. When you read through her descriptions, it feels as if she is right there explaining the history behind each item. It's almost like cruising through the aisles of a cozy little antique shop!</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Danita approached me recently with a question about Amy Butler's new <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/93051132/lark-by-amy-butler-fabric-bundle-4-yards">Lark collection</a> of fabrics. She definitely has an eye for design! She picked out the Treasure Box in Ocean print along with the Nanna Chic in Cloud. Excellent choices, Madam!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfNQQF892_4jD88TvLyCmkCk9FKQH3bd3fBg5faFPweRjQiQGN8Em3Q2789auvRYgFYDFADZGBLD2Qmbl4ADSPz79ofY55voo66tUTNbs2UI_DZv0NwxuiGGohm244NZosnbZQMsHFWPo1/s1600/AB+Treasure+Box+Ocean.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="202" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfNQQF892_4jD88TvLyCmkCk9FKQH3bd3fBg5faFPweRjQiQGN8Em3Q2789auvRYgFYDFADZGBLD2Qmbl4ADSPz79ofY55voo66tUTNbs2UI_DZv0NwxuiGGohm244NZosnbZQMsHFWPo1/s320/AB+Treasure+Box+Ocean.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

Or, maybe -- just maybe -- you can sweet-talk Ms. Danita into making another Amy Butler dress? :) Just a thought...</span></div><div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
